SCOTT, Herbert

South Staffordshire. 12 October 1918

One of seven sons of William and Mary Ann Scott of Platts Crescent, Amblecote, and was employed at Messrs Jones and Attwood in Amblecote. He enlisted in the South Staffs and was sent to the 1/5 (Territorial) Battalion who were very closely involved in the storming of the St. Quentin Canal at Riqueval on the 29th September. He might have taken part in this decisive attack but was certainly took part in the following advance. German resistance was not broken and Private Herbert Scott was killed in action on the 12th October. He was 22 years of age and had only been at the front for three weeks. He is buried at Busigny Communal Cemetery Extension (IV G 9) and commemorated on the Amblecote Memorial.
