TAYLOR, John William

Royal Artillery. 02 November 1918

John Taylor was the son of William and Charlotte Taylor of 138 Two Gates, Cradley. He enlisted in the 44th Brigade Royal Field Artillery and served in D Battery. He probably was in action during the German Spring offensives of 1918 but then fought in the Advance to Victory and the breaking of the Hindenburg Line. The continuing advance took them into Belgium but a few days short of the armistice he was killed in action near Tournai. He was 20 years of age and is buried in the Tournai Communal Cemetery Extension (V K 9) and commemorated on the Cradley and Halesowen Memorials.
