TAYLOR, Samuel

Welsh. 08 August 1915

Samuel Taylor was born in Halesowen and attended Hasbury C of E School. By 1914 he was living in Cardiff and volunteered for the Welsh Regiment. He went to the 8th (Service) Battalion who were sent in May 1915 to Gallipoli as part of the reinforcements needed to capture the peninsula. They landed at Suvla Bay on the 6th August with little opposition. The advance, however, on the 8th August was seriously contested by the Turks and Private Samuel Taylor was among many who were killed in action on that day. He is commemorated on the Helles, Halesowen and Hasbury C of E School Memorials.
