Thomas Tether was the son of Alfred and Sarah Tether of 208 Spring Hill, Hasbury, Halesowen, and attended Hasbury of E School. He volunteered for the Worcester Territorials and joined the 1/7th Battalion. They had fought on the Western Front since 1915 and fought tenaciously on the Somme in 1916. In 1917 they were engaged in the later stages of the Third Battle of Ypres and on the 9th October they were in the front line for the major Battle of Poelcappelle. They were much hampered by heavy rain but crossed the Brombeek to make some gains. However, casualties were high and included Private Thomas Tether. He was 20 years of age and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot, Halesowen and Hasbury C of E Sschool Memorials.
