Before the Cradley town Memorial was erected Cradley Church of England School established an Avenue of Remembrance near the school. Trees, one for each soldier lost, were planted at the top end of St. Peter’s Cemetery and a cross and commemoration stone were placed at the end close to the church. A War Memorial with fifty three names was also placed in the school. It is in the usual Worcestershire County Council style with the county arms at the top and three panels of names. Ten of the names are not recorded on the Cradley or Halesowen memorials. The dedication at the head of the names is:
CRADLEY C. OF E. SCHOOL
1914 FORMER SCHOLARS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1918
Underneath the names is the familiar sentence for remembrance
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND
IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM
