PEARSON, John

Worcestershire. 28 September 1915

John Pearson lived at 20 Yardley Street, Stambermill, and was a member of the Stambermill chapel. He volunteered for the Worcesters in October 1914 at 17 and joined the 4th Battalion on Gallipoli in August 1915. Three battles at the village of Krithia had failed to drive the Turks back and the troops had to endure the difficulties of trench warfare in the ravines and gullies of the Gallipoli terrain. Private John Pearson was seriously wounded on the 29th August during the sporadic fighting and died on the 28th September. He was just 18 years of age and is commemorated on the Helles, Lye and Wollescote and Lye church memorials.
