POSTINGS, John

South Staffordshire. 01 March 1918

John Postings came from Gothersley, Stourton, Staffs. and had been employed before the war by Mr Salter of Prestwood Hall. He enlisted in the South Staffords and was posted to the 2nd Battalion in 1915. In three years he would have seen a great deal of action from the battles of Artois in 1915 to the Somme in 1916 and Passchendaele in 1917. At the start of 1918 the battalion were near Cambrai in Havrincourt Wood. On the 1st March a fierce German barrage was launched on their position and one of the few casualties was Private John Postings. He was 21 years of age and is buried near Gouzeaucourt at Metz-en-Couture Cemetery (II H 35) and commemorated on the Stourbridge Memorial.
