Arthur Allden was the son of Thomas and Florence Allden of 9 Albion Street, Brierley Hill, and was educated at King Edward’s School, Stourbridge. He served in the Household Battalion in the 4th Division which was stationed on the Western Front in March 1918. They faced the first German Spring offensive of March and met the German advance at the Battle of Arras from the 28th March. In the course of the subsequent retreat he was seriously wounded and sent back to England for recovery. Trooper Arthur Allden died on the 26th July. He was 20 years of age and is buried in Brierley Hill churchyard (west) and commemorated on the Brierley Hill, Brierley Hill church and Stourbridge Sixth Form College Memorials.
