Alfred Bradley lived at Ivy Cottage, Poole Street, Gig Mill, Stourbridge, and attended Hill St. Council School. He was probably married by 1914 and enlisted in March 1915 in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. At some point he was transferred to the 1st Battalion of the Hampshires, probably after injury. In March 1918 the battalion was near Arras and faced the first German Spring offensive on the 21st. It suffered heavy casualties and moved north to Armentičres to recuperate and reorganise. Here they faced the next German offensive on the Lys which started on the 9th April. Lance Corporal Alfred Bradley was killed in action near Bethune. He was 22 years of age and is buried in St. Venant-Robecq Road British Cemetery (4 D 4). He is commemorated on the Greenfields school Memorial, but not on the Stourbridge Memorial. After the war his wife left Stourbridge to live at Wolverhampton.
Commemorated at:
Lye / Wollescote Cemetery, Stourbridge West Midlands, United Kingdom
