William Bullock enlisted in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and was sent to the 1st Battalion in the 33rd Division. They were closely involved in the 1916 Battle of the Somme from the opening day and fought at Albert, Bazentin, and High Wood. In 1917 they attacked at Arras in the first battle of the Scarpe. This was a brilliant success in its opening phase on the 9th April but the advance was not exploited very far. Another attack was made on the 14th April and Private William Bullock was killed in action on this day. He is commemorated on the Arras and Wordsley Memorials.
