Bertram Eades was the son of Thomas and Mercy Eades of 100 Spring Hill, Halesowen, and attended Hasbury C of E School. He enlisted in the Worcesters and was sent to the 4th Battalion who returned from Gallipoli in January 1916 and moved to the Western Front. They took a very active part in the Battle of the Somme at Beaumont Hamel and the Transloy Ridges and in April 1917 had a major role in the Battles of Arras. They attacked Monchy-le-Preux on its notable hill on the 14th April and again on the 23rd April. Private Bertram Eades was one of those killed in action on the 23rd. He was 21 years of age and is commemorated on the Arras, Halesowen and Hasbury School Memorials.
