GRAZIER, Edwin

Worcestershire. 09 November 1915

Edwin Grazier lived at 41 Anvil Yard, Cradley and volunteered for the Stourbridge Company of National Reservists in 1914 and then for active service in the Worcesters. He was sent to the 9th (Service) Battalion in the 13th Division which reinforced the Gallipoli force with a landing by ANZAC troops at Suvla Bay on the 6th August 1915. They went ashore successfully but failed to win control of the peninsula. Trench warfare developed among the gullies and woods but there was no breakthrough. As Autumn arrived, sickness appeared and Private Edwin Grazier was seriously affected by pneumonia. He was taken by hospital ship to Egypt but died at the Citadel Hospital in Cairo on the 9th November 1915. He is buried in Cairo War Cemetery (D 100) and commemorated on the Cradley and Halesowen Memorials.
