GREAVES, Frank

Worcestershire. 20 November 1917

Frank Greaves attended Hasbury school and enlisted in the Worcesters. He joined the 4th Battalion in France where they had fought with distinction in the long battles of the Somme and Third Ypres. At the end of 1917 they were called upon to take part in the battle of Cambrai when tanks were first deployed en masse. At day break on the 20th November the Worcesters accompanied the tanks across the destroyed enemy trenches and hoped for a break through. Casualties were light for such a battle but among them was Private Frank Greaves. He is buried at Flesquieres Hill Cemetery (VII A 2) and is commemorated on the Halesowen and Hasbury school Memorials.
