Tom Green came from Cradley and volunteered for the Worcesters. He was sent to the 4th Battalion who were selected for the Gallipoli campaign. They landed on the 25th April but could not make sufficient progress to capture the peninsula. Fresh landings took place on the 6th August when the original forces, including the 4th Battalion attempted to break out at the same time. It was unsuccessful and Private Tom Green was killed in action in the third Battle of Krithia on this day. He is commemorated on the Helles, Cradley and Halesowen Memorials.
