HARRIS, Thomas

Worcestershire. 18 March 1916

Thomas Harris was the son of George and Georgina Harris of Coalbournbrook, and a brickyard labourer. He volunteered for the Worcesters and joined the 2nd Battalion which had been in the Armentières sector since its dramatic actions during the 1914 campaign. The Winter period of 1915 was one of appalling weather and the front line was generally quiet. There were, however, always snipers and shells to contend with and only four men died in March. One of these was Private Thomas Harris who was killed in action on the 18th March. He was 22 years of age and is buried in Cambrin churchyard Extension (F 45) and commemorated on the Amblecote Memorial.
