HARRISON, Joseph

Oxford and Buckinghamshire. 28 October 1918

Joseph Harrison was born in Cradley and attended Cradley C of E school. He was married to Annie Harrison and they lived at 3 Little Hill, Cradley. He enlisted in the Oxfords and joined the 8th (Service) Battalion in the 26th Division. They were sent to Macedonia to assist Greece in the Balkan struggle against Bulgaria. The front line was fixed for a long time on Lake Doiran and the final battle started on the 28th September 1918 at Doiran. Bulgaria soon sued for peace but Lance Corporal Joseph Harrison died of wounds on the 28th October 1918. He was 36 years of age and is buried in Doiran Cemetery (VI H 22). He is commemorated on the Cradley, Halesowen and Cradley school Memorials.
