Albert Hyde lived with his parents at 66 Dudley Road, Lye, and volunteered for the Worcester Territorials. He joined the 1/7th Battalion and undertook training in England until they joined the 46th (South Midland) Division for passage to France on the 1st April 1915. They were posted to a quiet sector near Armentičres but one where they suffered their first casualties. German shelling was troublesome and one of the casualties was Private Albert Hyde who was killed in action on the 30th April 1915. He was 20 years of age and is buried in Calvaire (Essex) Military Cemetery (IV 1 A) and commemorated on the Lye and Wollescote and Lye church Memorials.
