JONES, Harry

Royal Artillery. 06 September 1916

Harry Jones came from Lye and enlisted in the artillery. He served in the Royal Field Artillery and was sent to the 48th Brigade. They were serving on the Western Front and fought in the 1916 Battle of the Somme in the area of Delville Wood. Gunner Harry Jones was seriously wounded and taken to the Casualty Clearing Station at Mericourt-l'Abbé where he died on the 6th September 1916. He is buried in Heilly Station Cemetery (IV A 33) and commemorated on the Lye and Wollescote and Lye church Memorials.
