Samuel Jones was the son of William and Mary Jones of 11 Ashley Street, Long Lane, Blackheath. He volunteered for the Worcesters and was sent to the 1st Battalion who were in front line action during most of 1915 from Neuve Chapelle in March to Bois Grenier in September. In October they were in relatively quiet front line trenches but sniping, enemy shelling and patrols into no-man's land were always dangerous. Perhaps from such action Private Samuel Jones was killed on the 18th October 1915. He was 19 years of age and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial. He is also commemorated on the Blackheath and Halesowen Memorials.
Commemorated at:
