Harry Kny was the son of Frederick Kny, the renowned glass engraver at Thomas Webb and Sons, who was responsible for the Elgin Vase. By 1914 they were living at ‘Pendower’ in High Street, Amblecote. Harry Kny was sent to the Army Cyclist Squadron and attached to the 43rd Remount Squadron at Salonica in the campaign against Bulgaria. It was a difficult campaign in every way and disease was as severe a problem as shell-fire and snipers. He died of infection on the 19th November 1917. Private Harry Kny was 30 years of age and is buried at Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, near the army base at Salonica and commemorated on the Amblecote Memorial.
