LEWIS, William Henry

Worcestershire Regiment.

William Lewis was probably a regular soldier with the 4th Battalion of the Worcesters who had battled through the whole of the Gallipoli campaign in 1915 and fought on the Somme in 1916 from the first day until the end of October. In April 1917 they fought hard in the battles of Arras and they came into the front line again after the opening of the Third Battle of Ypres. On the 16th August they attacked at Langemarck and successfully advanced the line but among the casualties was Lance Corporal William Lewis who is buried in Artillery Wood Cemetery (III D 19) and commemorated on the Wordsley Memorial.
