Harry Lloyd lived in Oldswinford and attended Oldswinford C of E School and later lived at Wollaston. He enlisted in the Worcesters probably in 1916 and went on active service with the 10th Battalion in the 19th Division later that year. He took part in the later stages of the Third Battle of Ypres and early in 1918 the battalion moved to the front line near the Hindenburg Line at St. Quentin. They were in the second defensive line when the great German Spring Offensive started on the 21st March. The first line Divisions were outnumbered and gave way, leaving the Worcesters and their fellow battalions to retreat in an orderly fashion. Nevertheless, there were many casualties as the German forces continued to advance. An attempt was made to counter-attack near Bapaume on the 24th March but it was unsuccessful and Private Harry Lloyd was killed in action. His name is commemorated on the Arras, Stourbridge and Oldswinford C of E School Memorials.
Commemorated at:
Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge, West Midlands, United Kingdom
