Bartindale Moore lived with his mother, Mrs J. Moore, at 6 Hall Street, Oldswinford. He attended Oldswinford C of E School and then worked as a warehouseman for Reynolds china stores in Stourbridge High Street. He enlisted in the Worcesters in February 1916 and was sent out in a draft to reinforce the 1st Battalion in June 1916. He arrived on the 18th June and was soon in action, since the British army was building up for the battle of the Somme. The Worcesters were in action on the 3rd July and again on the 7th in an attempt to capture Contalmaison. They were relieved on the 9th June after casualties of 350 men. They moved out of the battle zone to Artois where their numbers were soon made up. Here they occupied trenches on the 1915 battlefield of Loos. Although much quieter, the area was still subject to heavy German bombardment and it was probably as a result of shelling on the 5th August that Private Bartindale Moore was killed. He was 23 years of age and is commemorated on the Loos, Stourbridge, Oldswinford church and Oldswinford C of E School Memorials.
Commemorated at:
Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge, West Midlands, United Kingdom
