Walter Pardoe was one of the three sons of Frederick Pardoe of the Royal Oak, Lye. He volunteered for the Worcesters and served in the 2nd Battalion. In 1916 they fought on the Somme and in 1917 were brought up to Flanders for the Third Battle of Ypres. They took part in the late September Battle of the Menin Road and suffered heavy casualties. They then moved to the valley of the Lys and were in the front line for a few days. There was little activity except for the inevitable shelling. On the 18th October Drummer Walter Pardoe was wounded and sent to a Casualty Clearing Station near Bailleul. He died two days later on the 20th October and is buried in Outtersteene Communal Cemetery Extension (II A 17). He is commemorated on the Lye and Wollescote Memorial.
Commemorated at:
Mary Stevens Park, Stourbridge, West Midlands, United Kingdom
