PARRISH, Frank

Frank Parrish was the son of James and Esther Parrish of Alwen Street, Wordsley, and a clerk at Messrs Edward Webb and Sons, the Wordsley seed-merchants. He enlisted in the Army Ordnance Corps in April 1916 and in July 1917 was transferred to the 7th Somerset Light Infantry in the 20th (Light) Division. They were strongly engaged in the Third Battle of Ypres, fighting at Langemarck, the Menin Road and Polygon Wood. They were also called upon for the November Battle of Cambrai. Private Frank Parrish was killed, probably in the fierce German counter-attack of the 30th November. He was described as missing and it was not until September 1918 that his death was confirmed. He was 22 years of age and is commemorated on the Cambrai, Amblecote and Wordsley Memorials.
