Percy Platt lived in Stourbridge and enlisted in the York and Lancaster Regiment. He joined the 1/4th Battalion in the 49th (West Riding) Division. In 1917 this Division was stationed on the extreme northern sector of the Western Front previously held by the French. It was significant for the protection given to the port of Antwerp. Even before the start of Third Ypres German pressure was exerted in this area and the battalion found itself under attack. On the 23rd July casualties were taken and one of these was Private Percy Platt who was killed in action. He is commemorated on the Nieuport and Stourbridge Memorials.
