The name of R. Sankey is commemorated on the Stourbridge Memorial and the St. Thomas's church Memorial provides the details of service in the Worcestershire Regiment with 25 April 1917 as the date of his death. However, his name cannot be traced in the usual sources or in the Roll of Honour of the Worcesters. The County Express of 12 August 1916 provided a short mention of R. Sankey of Hanbury Passage, Stourbridge, stating that he might have died in or on the way to Mesopotamia or India.
