Joseph Shilvock attended Hasbury C of E School and moved to 21 Hill Street, Halesowen, with his wife, Edith. He enlisted in the Hampshire Regiment but was transferred to the Labour Corps and attached to the 178th Company. These Companies were posted to infantry units and were frequently in the front line, repairing trenches, making roads and building artillery platforms. In 1917 the Company was stationed near Ypres which was within German artillery range. Private Joseph Shilvock was killed on the 4th July 1917 and is buried at Belgian Battery Corner Cemetery, Ypres, (I C 15). He was 26 years of age and is commemorated on the Halesowen and Hasbury C of E School Memorials.
