TALBOT, Philip E [JE]

Worcestershire. 24 August 1916

Philip Talbot was the son of Thomas and Sarah Talbot of 4 Foster Street, Kinver, and the adopted son of Mrs Hall of 102 Hagley Road, Oldswinford. Before enlisting he had been a munitions worker at Langley. He enlisted in the Worcesters and was posted to the 3rd Battalion some time before July 1916. In the long battle of the Somme the 3rd Battalion had a heavy involvement. On the 3rd July it attacked at Aveluy Wood, again on the 10th at Ovillers and on the 24th August on the Ancre Heights against the strong defences of the Leipzig Salient. Lance Corporal Philip Talbot, who had survived the two previous attacks, was killed in action on the 24th August. He was 24 years of age and is commemorated on the Thiepval, Kinver and Stourbridge Memorials.
