BENNETT, William Henry

Worcestershire. 23 October 1916

William Bennett lived at 57 Hill Street., Netherton, and volunteered for the Worcesters. He joined the 4th (Service) Battalion and went out to Gallipoli. The 4th Battalion left the area and returned to the Western Front in January 1916. However, the 9th Battalion remained for the Tigris campaign and continued to fight the Turks. Private Bennett's grave is in Baghdad and it is possible that he changed battalions and did not return to Britain or the Western Front. He is buried in Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery (XXI T 6) and is commemorated on the Dudley and Netherton Memorials
