William Bradley was the son of William and Zipporah Bradley of Brierley Hill and was married to Florence Bradley of 66 New Street, Brierley Hill. He enlisted in the East Yorkshire Regiment and served in the 1st Battalion. William Bradley joined them in August 1915 on the front line and took part in their heavy engagement in the 1916 Battle of the Somme. In 1917 they fought in the Spring Battle of Arras and were then sent to the Third Battle of Ypres which opened on the 31st July. They took part in the crucial fighting along the Menin Road at Polygon Wood in September and at Broodseinde where a major attack opened on the 4th October. Among the many casualties of that day was Private William Bradley who was 25 years of age and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
