Joseph Bull was the son of Mr and Mrs Isaac Bull of 7 High Street, Brierley Hill, and enlisted in the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, He was transferred to the West Surreys and served in the 3/4th Territorial Battalion. They joined the 21st Division in August 1917 after the start of the Third Battle of Ypres. They fought in the important Battle of Broodseinde which opened on the 4th October and made a useful advance. The Battle of Poelcapelle followed on the 9th October and Private Joseph Bull was killed in action on the next day. He was 19 years of age and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot, Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
