Enoch Cartwright came from Brockmoor and enlisted in the Sherwood Foresters. He served in the 10th Battalion in the 17th (Northern) Division. They were in the forefront for the Spring German offensives of 1918. They were at St. Quentin in March and at Amiens in April. They returned to the frontline for the Advance to Victory from August to November. They fought at Epéhy in September prior to the breaking of the Hindenburg Line and in the critical Battle of Cambrai. In the follow up they pursued the enemy to the Selle and it was at this time that Private Enoch Cartwright was killed near Caudry, a month before the armistice.
