CREW, James Charles

Worcestershire. 26 September 1917

Lived at 23 Cross Street, Dudley. He was possibly a Worcesters Territorial but he might well have fought his way through the 1916 Battle of the somme and was in the 2nd Battalion by 1917 Joined the 2nd Battalion. He fought through the 1916 battle of the Somme but in September 1917 the battalion entered the Third Battle of Ypres. The Worcesters advanced at dawn on the 26th September along the Menin Road but it was an extremely hard fought battle with many casualties. Among those killed in action was Private James Crew. He was killed in action and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot, Dudley and St. James church Memorials.
