DARBY, Joseph

South Staffordshire. 16 April 1915

Joseph Darby was born in Wordsley and married to Phoebe (later Kemp of 8 Fenton Street, Brierley Hill). He volunteered for the South Staffords Territorials and joined the 1/5th Battalion. They crossed the Channel to France at the start of April 1915 but Private Joseph Darby was taken ill and sent to a Casualty Clearing Station at Bailleul, He died on the 10th April and is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery (J 7). He was 35 years of age and is commemorated on the Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill Church Memorials.
