Alfred Green was born in Brierley Hill and enlisted in the Royal Garrison Artillery. He served in the 47th Siege Battery and went to the Western Front. The start of 1916 was quiet in the Ypres sector. However, sporadic shelling was always a danger and Gunner Alfred Green was killed on the 15th February. He is buried in Oxford Road Cemetery (III M 4) near Ypres and commemorated on the Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
