HOMER, Charles Edward

Leicestershire. 26 February 1916

Charles Homer was the son of James Henry and Mary Homer of Brierley Hill and lived at 36 Lower Delph with his wife, Edith Rebecca Homer, later of 17 Chapel Street, Pensnett. He was possibly a pre-war regular soldier serving in the South Staffords and fighting in the campaigns of 1914. He was transferred to the Leicesters and served in the 6th (Service) Battalion in the 21st Division. They went to the Western Front in October 1915 and suffered heavily at Loos. They moved up the Arras sector and in a relatively quiet period Private Charles Homer was killed in action on the 26th February 1916. He was 25 years of age and is buried in Berles-au-Bois Communal Cemetery (B2) and commemorated on the Brierley Hill, Pensnett and Brierley Hill church Memorials and on the Delph District Roll of Honour..
