HUNT, Walter Isaac

Royal Warwickshire. 18 July 1916

Walter Hunt was born in Brierley Hill and volunteered for the Warwicks Territorials. He served in the 1/6th Battalion in the 48th (South Midland) Division who went to the Western Front in March 1915. They had trench experience on the quiet Somme front during the severe winter of early 1916 but in July they were closely involved in the early attacks of the long Battle of the Somme. The opening attacks at Ovillers and Pozières were lcostly and Private Walter Hunt was killed in action on the 18th July. He is commemorated on the Thiepval, Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
