KINSEL, L John Henry

South Staffordshire. 25 July 1916

John Kinsell was the son of William and Priscilla Kinsell and was married to Dinah of 107 Bank Street, Brierley Hill. He was living in Cannock in 1914 and volunteered for the South Staffords. He went to the 1st Battalion and in 1915 they fought in Artois and were involved in the first day of the Battle of Loos on the 25th September. In 1916 they were in the front line again and remained there for the first day of the Somme, the 1st July, when they captured Mametz. Casualties were suffered at all times when they were in the trenches and at some point Private John Kinsell was seriously wounded. He was sent back home to hospital but died of his wounds on the 25th July. He was 31 years of age and is buried in Brierley Hill churchyard (south) and commemorated on the Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
