KNOTT, John

Royal Engineers. 09 April 1918

John Knott was born in 55 Vauxhall Street, Dudley and the son of Joseph and Maria Knott, of 328, Munition Huts, "C" Block, Wolverton Rd., Dudley. He enlisted in the Royal West Surrys and served with them for some time. He was transferred to the Royal Engineers and then served in the 3rd Special Company which specialised in gas operations.In the Spring of 1918 he was stationed on the area in front of Armenti?res and on the 9th April faced the second great German offensive. Among the many casualties was Pioneer John Knott who is commemorated on the Ploegsteert and Dudley Memorials.
