Arthur Morris was born in Wolverhampton and his parents, John and Mary Morris, later lived in Brierley Hill. He enlisted in the North Staffordshire Regiment and was later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps where he served in the 123rd Battalion. Their first battle was fought on the Somme in 1916 and then they were at Messines in the Spring of 1917. They joined the Third Battle of Ypres in September for the Battle of the Menin Road starting on 22 September. It was a long struggle and Private Arthur Morris was killed on the 26th September. He was 23 years of age and is buried in Hooge Crater Cemetery (VII K XI) and commemorated on the Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
