William Pearshouse was born in Cradley, lived at Pitt Lane, Netherend, and attended Cradley C of E School. He volunteered for the South Staffordshire Regiment but was transferred to the West Yorkshire Regiment and went with their 9th (Service) Battalion to reinforce the British force on Gallipoli. They landed on the 6th August and were engaged in a contest for the ridge of the peninsula. Against sstronger opposition than expected hey failed to break through the Turkish line on Sari Bair and one of those killed in action on the 9th August was Private William Pearshouse. He is commemorated on the Helles, Cradley, Halesowen and Cradley C of E School Memorials.
