Sidney Perry lived in Oldswinford, attended Oldswinford C of E School but left Stourbridge for Cheltenham some time before the Great War. He was married to Annie, who later lived at 'Maythorne', Marle Hill Road, Cheltenham. He enlisted in the Gloucestershire Territorials and joined the 2/6th Battalion in the 61st Division. They crossed to France in 1916 and were involved in the Battle of the Somme and Third Ypres. In November 1917 the Gloucesters were called on take part in the later stages of the Battle of Cambrai. After the successful British attack the German counter attacks were extremely heavy and brought about serious casualties. These included Private Sidney Perry who was killed on the 2nd December. He was 31 years of age and is commemorated on the Cambrai, Stourbridge, Oldswinford church, and Oldswinford C of E School Memorials and on his parents' grave in Oldswinford church cemetery.
