Daniel Round was born in Wolverhampton but was probably living in Brierley Hill when he volunteered for the South Staffords Territorials. He joined the 2/6th Battalion which went for its first military duty to Ireland during the 1916 Dublin Rising and then to the Western Front in February 1917. They joined the forces following up the German retreat from the Somme to the Hindenburg Line and then fought in the third phase of the Third Battle of Ypres, the September Battle of the Menin Road. Private Daniel Round was killed in action on the 24th September and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot,Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
