SHARE, William Benjamin

South Staffordshire. 14 May 1915

William Share was the son of Benjamin and Alice Share of Brierley Hill. He volunteered, probably before 1914, for the South Staffords Territorials and served in the 1/5th Battalion. They were in the 46th (North Midland) Division and went to the Western Front in March 1915. They were posted on the end of the Messines ridge near Wulverghem, where they were close to the Artois Spring battles but not called upon for them. However, trench warfare was a serious matter and among the casualties was Private William Share who was killed in action on the 14th May 1915. He was 25 years of age and is buried in St. Quentin Cabaret Military Cemetery (I F 17) and commemorated on the Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials.
