Henry Shilvock lived at 13 Heath Lane, Oldswinford, and was married with two children. His parents lived at 17 Heath Lane and he attended Oldswinford C of E School. Before enlisting as a volunteer he was employed by Mr A. Guest and in August 1915 he was posted to the 4th Battalion and then the 3rd Battalion of the Worcesters. He went out to France in March 1916 and was present in the successful struggle of the 25th Division to gain Vimy Ridge in June. In the long battle of the Somme the 3rd Battalion had a heavy involvement. On the 3rd July it attacked at Aveluy Wood, again on the 10th at Ovillers and on the 24th August on the Ancre Heights against the strong defences of the Leipzig Salient. Lance Corporal Henry Shilvock, who had survived the two previous attacks, fell on the 24th August. He was 30 years of age and is commemorated on the Thiepval, Stourbridge, Oldswinford and Oldswinford C of E School Memorials.
