SLATER, John Thomas

Labour Corps.

John Slater was the son of Mr and Mrs Slater of 18 Broad Street, Kingswinford. He worked at Messrs Fleming, a glass manufacturer and volunteered in 1915. He joined the Lincolnshire Regiment but was badly gassed in the course of fighting on the Western Front. He was transferred to the Labour Corps but when the effects of gas continued he was sent home for hospital treatment. He was at Ripon Hospital suffering from peritonitis when he died on the 7th June 1918. Private John Slater was 21 years of age and is buried in Kingswinford Cemetery and commemorated on the Kingswinford Memorial.
