Victor Worton was the third son of William and Mary Worton of 14 Brettell Lane and lived with his wife and three children at Silver Street, Brierley Hill. He volunteered for the Worcesters and went to the 4th Battalion who were sent to the Gallipoli peninsula. They landed at Cape Helles on the 25th April but after three Battles at the village of Krithia were unable to capture the peninsula. In November the area was affected by disease and appalling weather and Private Victor Worton was killed in action on the 12th December. He was 27 years of age and is buried in Azmak Cemetery, Suvla (II A 24) and commemorated on the Brierley Hill and Brierley Hill church Memorials. His five brothers survived the war and Sergeant Harry Worton of the Grenadier Guards was awarded both the Military Medal and Distinguished Conduct Medal.
